OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of May 25. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.

1. U.S. markets closed Monday: Most major trading markets will be closed Monday for the Memorial Day holiday. The DTN newsroom will be closed, though Canadian market content will be updated. U.S. market commentary will resume Tuesday morning.

2. Response to MAHA: We continue to hear responses to the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) report and its potential effects on popular ag pesticides. The report and early responses can be read here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….

3. More Midwest rain: Another system in the Plains may spread showers into the southwestern portions of the region through the weekend, then possibly across the Midwest next week. Remaining planting could be delayed in the Delta and across the south where it has been and continues to be too wet. Expect lower temperatures for a good portion of next week before rising at week's end. Frost is not a very likely concern but could develop under the right conditions in some patchy areas across the far north. We're expecting temperatures to rise going into June.

4. International weather varied: Canadian Prairies should see drier weather, allowing for better chances to finish seeding. Lower temperatures will slow germination and early growth, however. Temps rise late week, improving growing conditions. Brazil's key growing regions should see rain early in the week, particularly in the safrinha (second crop) corn areas of Parana and Mato Grosso. In other areas, corn will depend on soil moisture, which has been relatively plentiful. Northern Europe is getting badly needed rain, though already dry areas in France, where wheat and other grains need it, will likely miss out. Around the Black Sea, scattered showers helped some areas, but dry conditions reign. Things are also turning drier in southwestern Russia as winter wheat begins grain fill and spring crops begin to emerge. In China, drier conditions in central portions are stressing wheat and canola that are in reproductive to filling stages. Dryness may also stress some corn and soybean areas that have just been planted. Very little precipitation is forecast here through the end of the month and into early June. Northern corn and soybean areas are in better shape with soil moisture, but have also been very cold lately, which has likely slowed planting progress.

5. Economic reports this week: Monday, Memorial Day holiday. Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. is Durable Goods Orders, at 8 a.m. is the S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index. The latest Consumer Confidence numbers are out at 9 a.m., with Grain Inspections at 10 a.m. At 2:30 p.m. is the latest USDA Crop Progress report, with DTN analysis soon after. Wednesday the minutes of the latest Fed meeting are released at 1 p.m., and at 2 p.m. is latest Broiler Hatchery numbers. Thursday reports begin at 7:30 a.m. with Initial Jobless Claims and First Quarter GDP data. At 9 a.m. is Pending Home Sales, while at 10 a.m. we'll see the EIA Weekly Petroleum report including ethanol production and stocks. At 10:30 a.m. is Weekly Economic Index data, and at 2 p.m., weekly Slaughter numbers. Friday sees several reports released at 7:30 a.m.: Grain Export Sales, Personal Income and Spending, PCE Index and Core PCE Index., the Advanced Trade Balance for April and Retail and Wholesale Inventories. At 9 a.m. is the latest Consumer Sentiment report. At 2 p.m. latest Agricultural Prices numbers are released, then at 2:30 p.m. is CFTC Commitment of Traders report.
